ABOUT US
PrizeChimp was created and is operated by former tree surgeon Ben Broom, of Emerald Tree & Garden Services in Devon.
Hello and thank you for visiting my little project – PrizeChimp.co.uk. I hope that you have found the website simple and easy to use and that the competitions we have on offer have tempted you. These prizes will only get bigger and better as more participants take part. I would love to build PrizeChimp to the point of having weekly draws irrelevant of tickets sales, but this can only happen with the involvement of people like you.
A little about me; Hopefully without regret, I’m currently in the process of trying to step away from the tree work industry. At the start of 2018 towards the end of my first year “training” I was involved in an accident, whilst rigging down a storm damaged Monterey Pine, from which I was lucky to walk away. I spent ten days in hospital and my list of injuries included eight facial fractures and what is described by professionals as a ‘moderate-severe traumatic brain injury’ or ‘TBI’.
Despite getting back to work as quickly as I could, my recovery was slow and I’m still recovering now nearly three years later. I’ve set up and run my business Emerald Tree & Garden Services (link opens in a new window) in Devon and I’ve seen some success, but memory issues and fatigue, as well as other symptoms like depression and anxiety (both common effects of TBI) have forced me to accept the fact that tree work is no longer a suitable career choice for me.
The current Covid situation in the UK has allowed me time to decide which direction I should go, and I’ve settled on the idea of moving in to web and graphic design; this being something I’ve always dabbled with on and off since my teenage years.
The idea for PrizeChimp came about when I heard about a friend of a friend winning a car on one of the many motor competition websites out there. Having never really been flush with cash, I’ve always been amazed and often held back by the cost of the equipment that we require to carry out our work in an efficient and safe manner. I did a little research and found a couple of competition sites offering Arb and Forestry related prizes but these all seemed to have little engagement with the industry and didn’t really entice me. They just seemed out to make a quick buck.
I haven’t made PrizeChimp to try and get rich. Whilst I would obviously be happy to see some return for my efforts, if successful, I would also like PrizeChimp to give something back to the tree work industry. We will be sharing some of our profits to charity (click here to view the current charities that I’m hoping to support in a new window). If we can build a good following I would also like include safety related giveaways, such as first aid training for entire teams (something I’ve noticed missing from a lot of teams I’ve worked with).
I would be very open to hearing your thoughts about PrizeChimp and what you’d like to see. If you have any suggestions for website improvements or great prizes, please do get in touch. I can be reached directly at ben@prizechimp.co.uk.
I hope that you’ll stick around and enjoy the competitions and prize draws, as well as our social media interaction. Good luck!
